The Dockers all but sealed a second successive finals
appearance with a stirring victory over the Carlton Blues on
Saturday. Fremantle has slowly but surely showed greater
maturity away from home and the performance against Carlton
felt like one of quiet confidence, holding their own against
a fierce, if lowly competitor, before tightening the screws
and kicking away in the last quarter. The defence was
marvelous all day, headlined by the wonderful Sir Robbie
Haddrill, who kept Carlton's Frankenstein monster, Brendan
Fevola to a solitary goal, and that was kicked when the game
was already over as a contest. The midfield is growing in
their faith of newcomer tall forward Troy Simmonds, who is
beginning to shine as a stay at home goal kicking option.
Medhurst and Farmer proved dangerous all day and Longmuir is
continuing on his stirling second half of the season. All
in all an excellent game to watch (although the jumpers
could be blue and white), especially since Fevola got
dragged for basically getting his butt kicked, and Freo are
developing an amusing habit of frustrating opposition tall
forwards, especially if they are ugly bastards like Fevola
and Hall! The run home sees us have a Friday Night match
against the Pies, then Geelong away, then the Derby, and the
Saints at the Dome. Heres to another four wins and a top
four finish! Bring on the mud Pies! Oh and by the way,
Sam and Rheemy have this message for all of us: Football
Fans,
Well, we'd just quickly like to tell the world that Byron
Schammer and Paul Medhurst are the best players in the AFL.
If youd like proverbially 'go outside' about it, email us,
well take you on.
Sam and Rheemy.
