Barking Freo Dockers

Fremantle Dockers Player of the Week (2005)

 Player of the Week

The Player of the week gets announced after all Bark Members give their 3-2-1 on the discussion board. The winner gets announced on the Wednesday after every game.

The Winner this week is: Robbie Haddrill! Haddrill did an excellent job on this years Coleman Medallist Fraser Gehrig, keeping him to four goals, 1 of which he got from a shocking umpiring decision, and another from a shocking lack of an umpiring decision after a Gehrig indiscretion. Haddrill has fought valiantly all season and it is not fault of his and his backline that Fremantle face an overly long summer.

Last Week: Credit where credit is due, Shaunny Mac, the old warhorse, showed once again that he bleeds purple putting in 200% against a team he clearly hates to lose to. In a team performance lacking spirit, McManus lit the way for the young blokes. He's had his fair share of critics, but he would be well worth putting on the Veterans list to see out a few more years for the club he loves so much. Well done Macca, a "Vintage" performance once again.

Previous winners:

Round 22: Peter Bell! Again with the heat applied only the pros could stand the pressure. Our little marvel of a captain did all he could but it wasn't enough.

Round 21: Paul Haselby! The barometer for our team, when he plays a ballburster, I can't remember us losing. This guy has real pride in his performance and seems to be sorting though the injury which has hampered him all year.

Round 20: Matthew Pavlich! In a disgraceful performance which showed when the heat gets applied we can't perform, Pav was a beacon of hope. He kept us in it, which the commentators were desperately grateful for to keep people switched on to the television.

Round 19: Paul Haselby! The barometer for our team, when he plays a ballburster, I can't remember us losing. This guy has real pride in his performance and seems to be sorting though the injury which has hampered him all year.

Round 18: Josh Carr/Matthew Pavlich! If Pav didn't get a sore bum half way through he might have won this outright. But the clutch goals from the Datsun's brother ensured that this award is shared this week.

Round 17: Paul Hasleby! This game was made for Haze - wet drizzly, both teams desparate making for a torrid scrap. Haze delivered his best 2005 performance so far. Hopefully he is getting over that hernia problem which has restricted him.

Round 16: Matthew Pavlich! In an absolute purple patch right now (even though for this game he was wearing the white geurnsey. Anothe big bag from CHF wins it again for the big fella and he is certainly doing all he can to get us back into the finals race.

Round 15: Matthew Pavlich! Backed up the dominance against the Crows with another excellent display.

Round 14: Matthew Pavlich! Eight goals from CHF was a power performance that only the truly elite few can achieve in this competition. This game put him on the superstar map in my opinion.

Round 13: Jeff Farmer! The only player who even gets close to a positive mention for that deplorable performance which was round 13 versus the Roos. An absolute disgrace.

Round 12: Troy Cook! Against his old side, Cooky went toe to toe with Paul Williams and held his own. His commitment to the contest is just superb, and he just puts his head down and plays footy. I love the way Cook plays and he thoroughly deserves the votes this week.

Round 11: Jeff Farmer! Another game hard to pick out three worthy winners but Farmer gave it his all and really tried to create in the forward line. If only he had a few more mates...

Round 10: Jeff Farmer! This bloke is fair dinkum having his best season as a Docker, bagging four important goals in difficult conditions and his defensive efforts were team lifting. A massive impact in an important game. Well done Jeff.

Round 9: Jeff Farmer! In a game where the team lacked spirit, the fiery Farmer stood out like dogs balls. One of the few that looked like he wanted to fight for the victory, and the rest were trotting out thinking what they were oign to spend their next pay check on. Tell your teammates to wake up Jeff!!

Round 8: Matthew Pavlich! Marking everything in sight, the big Pav did his best to get the Dockers over the line. It wasn't enough but already people are talking him up as a brownlow fancy. I'll require a bit more form but as it stands he may well be up there at this point in the season. Well done Matthew.

Round 7: Matthew Pavlich! Dominant at Centre Half Forward, and with a midfield winning the ball at will, the Dockers gave Pav every chance to get the three votes. Pav didn't disappoint with 6 of the best and creativity to throughout. The good Carr with 39 must think he's pretty stiff though...

Round 6: Matthew Pavlich! Farmer must be spewing but Pav gave us the direction and Wizard provided the magic. Direction beat magic by a whisker but Pavlich's dominant CHF display couldn't be ignored, and although he only kicked 1 goal, his marking display meant the other forwards got plenty of supply.

Round 5: Matthew Pavlich - Possibly stung by criticism the week before, the big Pav put in a sterling performance to rocket him to the top of the charts in the AFL marking. He kicked two goals and provided plenty of drive which helped the likes of Medhurst, Farmer and Ryan Murphy. He needs to kick a little straighter but if he plays like that every week we might just shake a few teams in September yet (provided we make it!).

Round 4: Heath Black - in a game where no one deserves votes we'll just give it the bloke who got the most touches. Well done Heath Black. The less said about the game the better.

Round 3: Josh Carr - in a tough game against the dirty cross town rivals, it was the toughest who rose to the top. When the rest of the team were blown away, Josh played like he didn't realise he was no longer playing for a premiership team and nearly single handedly got us over the line. "What? I play for those loser Dockers do I? So that explains the purple jumper, I thought it was a marketing gimmick" said a slightly over-tired Ferrari. "At least that means I can finally win the Balding Speedster Trophy, I always wanted that" Josh said brightly.

Round 2: Justin Longmuir - From brothers united to a brother bereaved, Justin dominated the game right around the ground stopping coutnless forward thrusts to be the stand out for the game. "The only thing I can think of to make up for the pain of losing Troy to Carlton is to win the Balding Speedster Trophy" he told reporters after the match.

Round 1: Josh Carr/Matt Carr - In the first game for the year, it seemed fitting that the brothers in arms Carr got top votes equally for the stirring win against the Ferrari's old side. The 1979 Datsun joined the party also and so both brothers have made early claims to steal Haselby's crown as the Balding Speedster Trophy holder. Josh is apparently upset at his brothers good form. "I want the trophy" he said post match. "My big brother is always stealing things that are rightfully mine!"
